Simple changes. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

So easy to eliminate many chemicals from our daily lives…

Please add your comments to share what’s working for you to eliminate chemicals from your life!

Contrary to what many expect, it’s actually really easy and relatively cheap to minimize, and even eliminate, the many potentially harmful chemicals in our daily lives – and well worth it! While we continue to support cancer research and treatment for those suffering from illness, we can and must put equal energy into prevention.

If there was something, anything we could do to possibly prevent ourselves or our loved ones from the painful challenges or possible death, from illnesses or conditions worsened or contributed to by the environment: cancer, asthma, Alzheimer’s, infertility, autism, leukemia… etc, etc. Why would we not?! Not to mention many of these chemicals just make us feel bad and gain weight… who needs it?!

Of course there are no guarantees, even if we eliminate ALL chemicals. We are where we are, damage has been done and genetics play a big part. And realistically, our modern lifestyle has made us dependent on certain chemicals we can’t do without. But we can do what we can. And, just like the lottery – you can’t win if you don’t play! What have we got to lose?! Time to go ALL IN!

Below are some ideas to get things started…

  • Read labels, minimize processed foods – that means anything that’s not a whole food, except for certain frozen or packaged foods. Again, read labels – not the marketing, the LABELS. “All Natural” doesn’t necessarily mean all natural.
  • Don’t buy Partially Hydrogenated oils or palm oils
  • Don’t buy fast food cooked in Partially Hydrogenated oils
  • Buy whole foods – usually the outside perimeter of the store
  • Join local whole food co-ops

Why do yougottaraiseyourhand?

To be heard, right?! We all learned that in school, didn’t we? If you wanna be heard, raise your hand. And my favorite reinforcement of this adage, and the inspriation for the name of this blog, is Bruce Springsteen’s cover of Eddie Floyd’s original tune (link below – warning, explicit lyrics!) on the Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band Live 1975-85. There are a lot of people out there like me who tend to avoid all the noise and ridiculousness in the public discord today and just keep quiet about important things. Like how they feel about what’s going on the world – from the environment, to raising kids, to health care, to budget cuts etc. etc.

But in the absence of debate, he who screams the loudest tends to win. So…

If there’s something you need! If there’s something you want! YOU GOTTA RAISE YOUR HAND!

(Warning – explicit lyrics)
